Honestly, Pumpkin Spice Lattes Should Just Always Be for Sale

Rumors are swirling today that the Pumpkin Spice Latte will return to Starbucks in two weeks, on August 27. Business Insider — which keeps an impressively close eye on the PSL’s annual launch calendar — reports that, should the rumors hold true, this will be the earliest. Pumpkin. Spice. Latte. Launch. Ever.

Haters will say it’s basic. Snobs will say it tastes bad. Real ones will say it just needs to be for sale all year. Who even knows what’s in it? Cinnamon, nutmeg, whatever. It’s coffee that is pumpkin pie. Over the years, the very popular seasonal beverage has earned a reputation for being a guilty pleasure, and a meme-worthy “white girl” drink, but there is no good reason to be ashamed of ordering a Pumpkin Spice Latte; we all deserve nice things. Aside from Starbucks’s desire to create demand by artificially limiting the availability, there is also no good reason that this mix of caffeine, sugar, and spices should only be sold in the fall.

If I can order iced coffee in January, I should be able to order pie coffee in June. Remember when McDonald’s announced — finally — that it would sell Egg McMuffins all day and everyone had a meltdown? Now imagine if Starbucks announced they finally decided to make their most famous drink available all year? Just do it, Starbucks. Stop pretending like your fake-pumpkin syrup can only be made around Labor Day. You sell an iced version. Now sell it in May. It’s Hot Girl Summer, and if I want Starbucks pumpkin spice, I shouldn’t have to wait two more weeks to get it.
